FAITH IN ACTION: NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS

Northwest Portland's Faith in Action volunteer coordinator matches volunteers with elders and persons with disabilities, in order to provide on-on-one assistance.

Depending on the needs and wishes of the people involved, a Faith in Action volunteer might:

  • Visit on a regular basis
  • Provide or arrange transportation to doctors, businesses, libraries, religious services, events, etc.
  • Help with grocery shopping, either by taking someone shopping or doing shopping for them
  • Help with meal preparation
  • Help with pet care
  • Help with housekeeping
  • Help with household repairs
  • Run errands
  • Read aloud to visually impaired people
  • Share activities such as playing chess or working on hobbies
  • Encourage involvement with the larger community by providing information and facilitating attendance
  • Help someone connect to community social service resources
  • Accompany someone on a trip to a doctor's office or other destination

If you want to know more about how you can help or get help, contact our Faith in Action Volunteer Coordinator. She can be reached by telephone at the NWPM office:
