Spirit Mountain Community Fund Award

Northwest Portland Ministries has received a $5,000 grant from the Spirit Mountain Community Fund. The grant will be used to help low-income housing residents living in the Pearl District with specialized transportation needs.

“We are both pleased and honored by the Spirit Mountain Award”, said Preston Holt, Treasurer for Northwest Portland Ministries. “We’ve been receiving requests for help from residents of the Pearl District for some time. They’re tenants of recently-constructed low-income housing, but with little to no social support available to them. The residences are like islands of poverty and isolation in one of Portland’s wealthiest neighborhoods”, he noted.

Spirit Mountain Community Fund was established by the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde to share profits from Spirit Mountain Casino with the citizens of Oregon. The Tribe contributes nearly $5 million annually to non-profit agencies in the Willamette Valley. “We are pleased to support this program that offers support to a very economically isolated community in the Portland metro area,” said Director Shelley Hanson. “As a Tribe we know about economic isolation and the challenges citizens face. We are honored to support a program that offers support and encouragement to those citizens.”
